Household tip #11

** Make your own laundry soap. **

Here is the recipe that I use to make mine, but there are a lot of recipes out on the internet that are just slightly different:

  • 1 cup Borax
  • 1 cup Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (NOT baking soda) - This comes in a yellow box
  • 1 bar of Fels Naptha soap
All of these items can usually be found in the laundry aisle of the store. Not all stores carry all of these items though.

Chop or grate the Fels Naptha soap. Add all ingredients to a food processor or blender. Blend into a powder. You only need to add 1-2 Tablespoons of this soap per load of laundry. This laundry soap can be used in front-loading washing machines or any machines that require the HE detergents.

* I have an old blender that I use for this. I usually chop up the soap and then blend it a little at a time with a little of the Borax and Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda.
