Pet peeve #20

** When someone opens a new box or package of food before the first one is empty... **

Pet peeve #19

** Toys/books that require special batteries other than the standard AA or AAA. **

These toys usually end up in the donation pile once the batteries die.

Pet peeve #18

** Clothing that is labeled machine wash separately, hand wash or dry clean only. **

Seriously, do I have nothing better to do with my time than do laundry or visit the dry cleaners?

Pet peeve #15

** Dear children:

Is it really that hard to turn your socks right side out when you take them off your feet? It would certainly save me a lot of time if you could do that.

Love,
Mom **

** Why are there so many tags on clothes nowadays? **

Pet peeve #13

** When parents are late picking their kids up from a party. **

If you know you will be late, please let me know in advance. Otherwise be respectful of other people's time and be there on time!

Pet peeve #12

** When parents throw huge birthday parties for young kids. **I am hesitant to send my kids to a party where there are going to be tons of kids there and my child doesn't even know the birthday child very well... And when they won't even be missed if they are not there...

Pet peeve #11

** Why don't they have more gender neutral baby/kid items? **

I have noticed a gradual shift from lots of things being offered in gender neutral colors when M&M was a baby to almost nothing now. You either have to buy pink or blue - not much in between. I wonder if it is because more people are having fewer and fewer kids so they don't have the need to pass things down to the next child...

** When I ask, "What?", it is usually because I couldn't hear you the first time. So please speak up! **

** Sports & dance programs for kids. **

Do we seriously need to have our kids scheduled for 4 practices and 2 games a week for months on end? They're kids that should be having fun, not making a career decision. The dance studio that my 5 year old takes a ballet/tap class at wanted me to have her try out for and join a competition team this year. Ummm, for a 5 year old who hasn't even decided if she really likes dance or not?? I think not. Not to mention the costume and competition fees involved in joining the group.

Do we really need to subject our kids to programs like these that take away all of their free time and infringe on precious family time? Just food for thought...

Pet peeve #7

Actually this is more of a pet peeve of my husband, but I thought it was worth posting:

** When someone doesn't do something and they use the excuse that they didn't have enough time. **

We all have the same number of hours in the day, and we choose to do those things that are most important to us. So what do you spend your time doing, and is there something else you should be doing in its place that should be a higher priority in your life?

Pet peeve #5

** People who can't seem to put their dirty clothes in the HAMPER.**

Dear kids,

Is it really that hard to pick up your dirty clothes after you take them off and put them in one of the dirty clothes hampers, strategically located throughout the house? The only one of you who has far to walk to reach one is my firstborn. The rest of you have no excuses (and my firstborn only passes a hamper numerous times throughout the day while she is going up and down the stairs from her room to get to the rest of the house). I refuse to wash any clothes that are not in the hamper, so if you want to have clean clothes to wear, either be more diligent in making sure they make it into the hamper, or learn to wash your own clothes.

Love,
Mom

Pet peeve #4

** People who think they know how to discipline/raise your kids better than you do.**

I don't mind friendly advice now and then, but I actually had a complete stranger once tell me that my kid (who was throwing a tantrum at the store) was spoiled. So to whomever this may concern: Please keep your unsolicited (and less than helpful) comments to yourself next time!

Pet peeve #3

So, to go along with Pet peeve #2:

** Why can't stores design their parking lot so that the shopping cart return corrals are easy to get to, no matter where you park in the parking lot?!? **

Is it really that hard to make sure there are return corrals put at staggered locations throughout the parking lot? My least favorite is when you are parked in the first parking stall next to the store and it's closer to walk the shopping cart all the way back to the store then to walk it to a cart corral... I really wish the parking lot designers would consult with a mom on how to design their layout better! (Plus I think people would do a better job actually returning the carts to the correct location!!)

Pet peeve #2

** People who leave their shopping carts in the middle of the parking lot. **

Seriously people, is it really that hard to walk it over to the return corral? (I just found out the name of it by googling - isn't google great?) I hope I don't offend anyone with this pet peeve! Stay tuned to tomorrow where I elaborate a little more...

Pet peeve #1

** Electronic toys that do not have on/off switches!! **

Seriously toy makers?!? Please help to maintain the sanity of parents worldwide by putting a simple on/off switch on your toys! Most of ours that don't have on/off switches usually end up in the donation pile or do not get their batteries replaced when they die!
